Albion is a small collection of food and drink destinations, specialising in unfussy and informal all-day dining.

We started life in Shoreditch in early 2009 as a cafe, bakery and shop, serving no-nonsense, modestly priced, seasonal British food. Since then the original idea has flourished and a lot has changed over the years, with openings in Bankside, Clerkenwell and a second location in Shoreditch.

We may have evolved, grown and added new elements to our menus, but we haven’t changed our values.

Each Albion is different to the next, but they do all share the same ethos about British food – our menus aim to champion great produce and seasonal ingredients. The kitchen teams combine modern cooking styles with time-honoured methods to create a happy combination of contemporary recipes and long-established classics – all pleasingly simple, and generously served.

We like to think that each Albion has its own personality and talented managers and head chefs run them independently. We now offer a wide-range of food and drink: from juice bars to oyster bars, and dining rooms just serving pies to grill restaurants. All of our locations include a small grocery with a craft beer and wine shop too.

Albion is a celebration of Britain and the local area in every sense – from the artisan produce on our shelves and the seasonal ingredients in our kitchens, right down to the décor, furniture and, the smaller details, like our knives and forks.

Whether your brunching in Bankside, enjoying a pie party in Clerkenwell or indulging in a late supper in Shoreditch, there’s something on the menu for everyone at Albion.

Counter Albion is a lighter alternative to the hearty Albion with a self-service cafe, takeaway, shop and workspace. Menus are planned with the help of nutritionists and the drinks list features innovative superfood concoctions.

In the evenings, Counter Albion becomes a new-style simple wine bar with a superb selection of British charcuterie and farm cheeses. Majority of the wines are natural, capturing the true flavour, terroir and nature of the vintage. And, at 6pm each evening, the pie rooms menu is introduced.

This Albion also includes a small specialist bookshop stocking top new titles and pioneering magazines from the food and drink world, while the grocery section is slightly more orientated towards specialist diets and health foods. There is also small section of the shop that sells kitchen equipment and utensils.

Opening Hours

Counter Albion is open 7 days a week from early morning to late supper.

Counter Albion does not take table bookings. Just turn up and the friendly team will find a table for you.

However, if you’re looking to host a private event, please contact our dedicated events team.

Explore Albion

Cafe

Our café menus focus on long-established British recipes and ingredients. The aim is to offer a gentle mix of Brit cafe specialities and food previously more associated with good home-cooking; nothing challenging or complicated, just straightforward and hearty.

Each Albion is open from breakfast all the way through to late supper. So you can call in for anything from a coffee and breakfast bun, to a glass wine with some British artisanal charcuterie, to a substantial meal.

Takeaway Food & Drink

Next to all of our cafes and shops, the takeaway counter offers a menu of sandwiches, snacks and hot and cold quick service foods, teas and coffees, plus an extensive selection of juices and other drinks.

Whether you’re looking for a cold-pressed organic juice or a flavoured milk, a sausage roll or pasty, you can be sure of swift service and modest prices.

Bakery & Cake Shop

All of the breads and baked goods that you can buy and sample at Albion are made on the premises from scratch. The choice of breads range from classic sour dough, in several sizes and shapes, to English bloomers and French baguettes. There are seed and herb breads, multi-grains, rye breads, fruit breads, Mediterranean-style breads and many more.

Alongside the extensive range of breads, each day the team bake a range of Viennoiserie: croissants; pain au chocolat; pain aux raisin; Danish pastries and various other modern interpretations including our famous cheese and Marmite scrolls.

Pie Rooms

Pies are a quintessentially British. They are wonderfully social and ideal for sharing, while also perfectly portioned and independent when made for one. They are historic and they are contemporary. We love them!

At Albion, a pie can be pastry topped, potato topped, vegetable topped, cheese topped, it might also be open or upside down. A pie can be sweet or savoury, a steak and kidney pudding or a bread and butter pudding, it can be hand-moulded, pastry enclosed, a tart, a quiche, served hot or served cold, extravagant or simple, from regal to regular.

Bring on the pies!

Grocery

All of our shops are open from early morning until late night, generally following the same trading hours as the adjoining café or restaurant.

Each shop specialises in great British food and drink, from established brands such as Coleman’s mustard or Maldon salt, to regional specialities, everything from everyday groceries and store cupboard essentials, to gift foods and culinary treats.

Grill Room

As the name suggests, our Grill Room menu is based on a range of steaks and chops cooked in a special indoor barbeque style grill. We’ve also got a separate more delicate flat grill for fish and shellfish, all sourced from British waters and seas.

In comparison to our café, the grill menu includes more seasonal highlights with simple recipes allowing the main ingredient to sing without it being distorted or over fussed.

Oyster Bars

British oysters and shellfish are favoured around the world and grace the tables of the finest restaurants. We keep things simple and in their original form, with each bar offering a choice of oysters, plus prawns, lobsters, clams, cockles, mussels and the like – all ideal with a glass of wine or before a delicious meal.

Wine & Craft Beer Shops

Each of our Wine & Craft Beer Shops varies in size and range of products, but they all offer at least 15 different British craft beers and ciders, including a few beers made especially for us.

All of the wines served in our bars and dining rooms, plus many more, are also available to take home.

Monday Supper Clubs

Every Monday, from 5.30pm, each Albion offers a really great value dining deal offering a wholesome main course plus a glass of wine or a craft beer for £14. A straightforward deal, with no restrictions or conditions, at a straightforward price. No need to book, just turn up and enjoy!

Reservations & Bookings

At our cafes, we only take bookings for tables of seven or more. For less, just turn up and the friendly team will find a table for you.

At our grill restaurants (Bankside and Clerkenwell), you can book in advance online via our website, or via email or telephone, but it isn’t necessary, as we always keep a fair number of tables for walk-ins and regular guests.

Children

Children are always welcome!

At the weekend and during school holidays, we provide a free meal for children under six, all day, until bedtime – up to two children for every one adult dining, with the selection from the children's menu.

Groups, Parties and Events

Each Albion is delighted to host large groups, parties or events.

The largest location is Clerkenwell that accommodates up to 225 guests, Albion Bankside takes group bookings for parties of up to 120 and Counter Albion can provide a space for a maximum of 90 guests.

We can provide a perfectly tailored event with breakfast, lunch, dinner, drinks or canapeĢ reception options.
